Oven Roof Insulation Replacement

Love my "new" Model 15B4 Chambers made in 1944. While checking the thermostat I noticed that the front, above the oven door, got very hot (500 deg setting). I am guessing that the insulation in the top of the oven has degraded after 55 years of continous use. I plan on regreasing the valves and wonder if I can replace the oven roof insulation when I have the the front of the stove off?

A couple of thoughts here. Yes, I have seen rock wool burnout on the top of the oven near the front. Might need a couple of handfulls here. Other thought is that the oven door might not be closing completely, Give it the dollar bill test. Close the oven door on a dollar bill, try to pull it out, it should be in there pretty tight. The service manual has good instructions on the adjustments of the cast iron frame and door.
